    The Midburn Event

The Midburn event is the official regional event organized by the Midburn community – the Israeli Burning Man community. For 5 days, a temporary city is set up in the Negev desert, creating a platform which will allow a communal life style, creativity, art and radical self-expression.

The Midburn event is not your usual festival, with big acts booked to play on massive stages. In fact, it’s more of a city than a festival, wherein almost everything that happens is created entirely by its citizens, who are active participants in the event.

The first Midburn took place in 2014, after about 2 years of building the community and a number of small-scale yet impressive unofficial events. Midburn 2014’s population was 3,000. The event took place in Ramat Negev Regional Council’s jurisdiction with the kind help of the tourism department as well as many other departments.

    The Burning Man Event

Burning Man is an annual, one week event that takes place at Black Rock City in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, U.S.A. No attempt to explain the event is possible until you actually experience it. Tens of thousands of participants gather in the middle of the desert, where living conditions are among the harshest in the northern hemisphere, and build a temporary city in which this insanely chaotic but super-organized event takes place.

At the end of the event the city disappears as if it never existed.

The event is defined as an experiment in Community, Art, Radical self-expression and Radical self-reliance and is based on the “Ten Principles” that formed over the years.

It all began on the longest day of the year, in the summer of 1986; 20 participants met on Baker Beach in San Francisco and burned a wooden effigy of a man as a spontaneous act of radical self-expression. The event got its name – Burning Man. Since then, the event grew and the amount of participants has almost doubled each year. After 5 years, the event moved to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada where it has taken place ever since. About 65,000 Participants took part in the last event.

The special thing about the event is that there are no visitors or spectators but only participants. The content of the event is determined by the participants that create it. Theme Camps are created with bars, clubs, lecture areas and relaxation areas. Artists pave the desert floor with giant, interactive art installations. At night the desert comes to life and transforms into a psychedelic display of light, color, fire and music. The participants wear colorful clothes, made for the event months in advance, and ride bicycles decorated with colorful lighting. Mutant art-cars carry party-goers deep into the desert, interactive art installations are lit by psychedelic lights and sounds of giant parties carry on well into the small hours of the night.
