Throughout the evening, SHAI recognized several honorees for their leadership, dedication, and achievements within the Persian Jewish community and beyond. The first category of awards celebrated “Powerhouse Community Leaders.” Parvaneh Khodadadian, SHAI’s Director of Senior Affairs, and Lisa Ohebshalom, Vice President of WIZO USA, were honored for their lifelong dedication to the well-being of others. Khodadadian was lauded for her 50 years of service to the seniors of the community, contributing significantly to their mental and physical well-being. Ohebshalom was recognized for her 25 years of work improving the lives of women and children through WIZO. In her acceptance speech, Khodadadian expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Thank you to SHAI and my beloved Persian Jewish family for this beautiful honor.” Ohebshalom, likewise, thanked the community and emphasized the importance of giving back to those in need.

In the second category, “Global Voices,” Dr. Sheila Nazarian, plastic surgeon and Jewish activist, Ari Ackerman, entrepreneur and Jewish philanthropist, and Fabien Levy, Deputy Mayor of New York City, were honored. Each of these leaders has used their platform to combat antisemitism and support the global Jewish community. Dr. Nazarian, a well-known social media influencer, expressed pride in receiving the award, while Ackerman highlighted the importance of using his Instagram platform to fight antisemitism and advocate for Israel. Deputy Mayor Levy, in his acceptance speech, thanked SHAI and his family, mentioning the significance of receiving the award on his father’s 80th birthday. The third category celebrated the accomplishments of the next generation, with awards presented to outstanding students. Honorees included Eric Kalimi from Harvard College, Talia Dror from Cornell University, and Benjamin Souferian from UMass. These young leaders, representing both yeshivot and public schools, were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to Jewish causes. Kalimi, a junior at Harvard studying economics, spoke about his work with the Harvard Hillel and his efforts to combat antisemitism on campus.

Throughout the night, keynote speaker Nazee Moinian delivered an inspiring address, reflecting on the resilience of the Jewish people and the importance of unity. She discussed the concept of a “circle of justice,” a harmonious societal principle from Persian culture, and drew parallels to the Jewish ethos of community and mutual support. Moinian’s message resonated deeply with the audience as she emphasized the Jewish obligation to heal the world through acts of kindness and service to humanity.

The gala was filled with vibrant entertainment, headlined by a spectacular performance from the internationally renowned artist Ishtar Alabina, accompanied by her band Los Niños de Sara. Her electrifying mix of Middle Eastern, Spanish, and Flamenco music brought the crowd to their feet, waving Israeli flags and celebrating the richness of the Persian Jewish culture.

As the gala concluded, Vice President Jacqueline Harounian expressed gratitude to SHAI’s founders, board members, and sponsors for their dedication over the past 32 years. She gave special recognition to Erika Goldstein-Kashi, praising her energy, optimism, and leadership in relaunching the organization for a new generation. “Erika is the face of SHAI’s future,” Harounian said, “and her relentless advocacy has brought us to new heights.”
