Last night, the historic Blue Moon Hotel transformed into a dazzling hub of light, music, and celebration as it hosted the unforgettable Festa di Hanukkah. Beginning at 6:30 PM, the evening delivered a spectacular fusion of cherished traditions, festive spirit, and contemporary charm, creating an experience that truly captured the essence of the holiday.
🍝 Italian Delights that Dazzled
The kosher (Cholov Yisroel) Italian dishes were a true feast for the senses, expertly blending authentic Italian flavors with strict kosher standards. Guests raved about the innovative fusion that transformed traditional recipes into something extraordinary. Randy Settenbrino, the organizer and owner of the Historic Blue Moon Hotel, shared with the New York Jewish Travel Guide (NYJTG) why the venue was the ideal setting for Festa di Hanukkah: a unique blend of Hanukkah traditions with an Italian flair. “We honor the legacy of my Nona Carolina by offering authentic recipes from her Trattoria Vesuvio, reimagined into a kosher dining experience,” he explained. “Our kosher Italian menu, inspired by our Pasticceria and Trattoria, is a heartfelt tribute to the essence of Italian cooking and baking, crafted in the artisanal style of the 1920s.”

The standout dishes for Hanukkah were nothing short of spectacular. The zucchini, patate e scalogni frittelle—a savory combination of potatoes, and scallions—was an irresistible treat. The zucchini latkes, served with fragrant pesto and a rich, were an absolute highlight. Paired with succulent salmon and a medley of mixed Italian vegetables, these dishes were a true feast for the senses. These mouthwatering creations left me eagerly anticipating my next visit to savor these exceptional dishes again at this extraordinary kosher restaurant.
🍇 Cheers to Hanukkah!
The open bar was a major hit, featuring an impressive selection of drinks. The thought behind offering an open bar and carefully selecting the drinks for the event was intentional, as Randy noted, “Wine gladdens the heart.” The event offered imported Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chianti, and sangria—perfectly complementing the menu. Beer and other beverages were also available, ensuring there was something for everyone. Guests mingled, toasted, and enjoyed the warm camaraderie of the evening.

Randy concluded that he hopes this event will grow or evolve in future years and that The Historic Blue Moon will become a hub for Jewish arts and cultural life. “It is the ideal setting to serve functions and provide community for Jews in the arts to congregate. The message I want my guests to take away from Festa di Hanukkah is that spirituality and creativity have the power to uplift our people and foster connection among Jews. There are many ways The Historic Blue Moon can serve the greater Jewish communities, enhancing our efforts to gain visibility as a beacon of what once was and what will be our shared destiny.”
As the night drew to a close, the warm glow of the menorah lights and the echoes of music, laughter, and heartfelt camaraderie filled the air. Guests departed with full hearts, cherished memories, and a renewed connection to the timeless traditions of Hanukkah. From the tantalizing aroma of freshly fried latkes to the joy of spinning dreidels and the unity of voices raised in song, every moment celebrated the festival’s spirit of light and resilience.
